Los Angeles Times Magazine Writes About Wanda Wen’s, A Soolip Wedding With Krista Jon as ASW Floral Designer in Press Meeting
Last week, a clutch of wedding-industry savants gathered at the quaint Claire Pettibone bridal salon on Robertson Boulevard to confab about the latest trends, royal wedding predictions and interesting requests (one involving penguins) that make them rise to the occasion in their professions time and time again.
After mingling and noshing on delicious bites from Terranea Resort, Ojai Valley Inn & Spa and Cake Divas, Soolip‘s Wanda Wen moderated a panel discussion, with participants Tiffany Emch from Ojai Valley Inn & Spa, Krista Jon Levandofsky of Krista Jon Couture Designs, Marly Majcher of the Party Goddess, executive chef Christian Schmidt of Terranea Resort , Yuki Sharoni of Yuki Sharoni Beauty & Lifestyle, Jacqueline Foster of Wayne Foster Music & Entertainment, Claire Pettibone, Denise Ritchie from Malibu Compost, Leigh Grode of Cake Divas…and yours truly! I was honored to attend and speak about the modern bride from my experience blogging about weddings over the past, oh my, almost year.
I’ve learned that the modern bride is extremely savvy, well-researched, creative and, in general, obsessed with finding the wedding dress of her dreams. The bridesmaid dress, bride’s hairstyle and honeymoon destination follow in import.
Here are some additional nuggets from my fellow panelists that I hope you will find as interesting as I did! (Read Full Article Here)

Eileen and Rafik’s White Floral Arch at The Casa Romantica by Krista Jon Couture Designs.
Eileen wanted her arch to be full of soft white hydrangea and roses with white orchids. I love the way this turned out with the succulents hanging on each side. A Perfect touch for a wedding at The Casa Romantica. What a wonderful couple they are! The whole process was full of inspiration and new ideas. Love that. 😉 Floral designs by Krista Jon Couture Designs.

The brides color palette was vivid yellows and orange, adding in elements of vintage retro glass vases and bottles, and boxes wrapped in vintage wallpaper. Testimonial:
Krista — Your work is amazing. I am so in love with the succulents (still!) and how you took the concept and ran with it. Thank you so much for all your hard work. I know the loads of glassware I dropped off to you was massive but you delivered and far exceeded my expectations. BTW: I’ll send you a pic of my perfectly potted bouquet tomorrow. I am so excited to watch it grow and have a living symbol of that day.
Personally, we would love for the wedding to be published. You don’t do an all succulent wedding without a single cut flower (explicit) unless you want to make a statement.
Hi Krista,
As promised, here is a pic of my bouquet and Tim’s bout. Super cool!
I’m so happy to see this, talk about recycle, my bride took her bouquet and planted it, my succulent bouquet lives on!!!….. 😉
Jules Bianchi asked me to provide floral designs for her wedding workshop, so I came up with the idea of using Hibiscus. The last time I had used them was for my own wedding almost 10 years ago! So, I went to my favorite hibicus farm and hand picked the flowers for her workshop. I love how Jules inspired me to come up with something unique and true to my heart. I’m so impressed with Jules and her forward thinking as well as her talent for photography. View her blog!!
Additional images by; Mariea Rummel Photography and Shelly WaldmanI also loved working with Jill Guin, of Darling Bride ,who was the hair stylist for Jules Workshop. She and I are working on another unique concept that I look forward to posting soon!
These are some of my favorite photos of the day. Enjoy!!!

A Soolip Wedding @ Vibiana, Downtown Los Angeles
A Soolip Wedding
Photography by: Docuvitae and Tara Sieling
For me and my team, inspiration started months ago when Wanda Wen invited us to be a partner, and event floral designer, for this years A Soolip Wedding…..The whole process was such a joy and this verdant succulent wall was one of my most cherished projects, ever! From the conception of an idea, to the joy of dirt and succulents with myself and some of my most favorite creative people!
Wanda Wen, founder and producer of A Soolip Wedding is so talented, but who knew she could play the strings? The musicians from String Theory Productions illuminated the room with sound. It was one of the most remarkable features at this years event. I’ve never heard or seen anything like it! The strings reached from one end of the cathedral all the way across to the other side up atop the balcony, Adding the beautiful sound of art.
Another highlight of the event was the bridal gown fashion runway show featuring Monique Lhuillier
The pictures below are from a really fun collaboration I had with Russell Fowler, along with Kirstie Kelly Couture and Cathryn Vanbreen of The Studio Agency. We put a modern twist to the vintage flapper girl look. Our models waltzed around the Vibiana holding a custom designed palm husk filled with succulents. They offered brides to be Russell’s dvd’s chalked full of some of his favorite weddings and my postcards which included photos of my designs. It was great to get to collaborate with such a fine visual artist like Russ.
We also designed a bold succulent headpiece to accent these amazingly sweet dresses by Kirstie Kelly Couture. A big thank you to the wonderful Erin Dallesandro, fashion Director of Kirstie Kelly Couture, for graciously providing our flapper models with these dresses. They are perfect bridesmaids dresses for any fashion savvy bride.
Russell Fowler has been A Soolip Wedding event cinematographer for the last 4 years. This year he styled his assistant cinematographers with vintage super 8mm film cameras and fedora hats for a mod squad look. They really looked like they were having a lot of fun shooting this event.
On a mission for milk glass and found my new favorite vase. Love the modern vintage feel of this black vase I found at an antique shop in san clemente. Beautiful linens, from La Tavola, add such a funky flair to the soft white flowers and milk glass…..
Above: Designer and Downtown Flowers Manager, Malorie Clampitt. Such a talented girl….
Below: my flower girls Casey and Parker, as well as Amy from Vanilla Bake Shop. Amy is a long time Soolip Wedding partner who I have had the joy of working with before.
Wanda Wen with her co-producers ErikaAhlin and Brook Barnes of PRA Destination Management. They really did an outstanding job. I really loved working with these women!
For the entrance registration area, La Tavola provided the perfect linens to match our pallette. We used Lotus pods, soft yellow roses and parrott tulips with peeks of black calla lilies. We also used lots of birch and succulents to create a woodlands feel for our guests as they entered the event.
I designed and fabricated this birch bark chuppah/alter that I will be renting for many upcoming weddings. I love the way the bark looks antiquey and organic at the same time. The bits of green lichen on the white and grey are so faint and beautiful.
From beginning to end it was such a wonderful time. I cant wait until the next A Soolip Wedding!
Downtown Flowers, Voted San Clemente’s favorite flower shop, AGAIN!
Behind the scenes Vintage “Video”
Our Event Studio collaborated to put together this Vintage Glam Retro Chic photoshoot to showcase what our team can offer. OC Chic Event Planning came up with the concept, I designed the flowers and headpieces, Tara Sieling and Russell Fowler shot the photos and Russell Fowler did this amazing behind the scenes video covering the whole day. We are really lucky to have Russell at our fingertips to capture what goes on here at our Event Studio for us. He is a very talented visual artist in demand from celebrity clientele such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Sally Field, Andrew Firestone, The Wu Tang Clan and many other television and major motion picture film executive producers and writers. He’s a humble giant who specializes in motion picture film, super 8mm and 16mm film, but we got him to shoot our Vintage Glam collaboration with video and he really nailed it. He didn’t want to release this video since it is still in it’s raw form, but I talked him into it…. I’ll upload the edited version when it’s ready. Until then, have a look at our Event Studio team at it’s best. Making beautiful things happen and loving every minute of it!

Christie & Brian’s Bel Air Bay Club Wedding August 1st, 2009
Bel Air Bay Club wedding, what can I say? I love the Bel Air Bay Club. Absolutely gorgeous venue and the couple was so fantastic! I just adore the bride Christie. Brian the Groom was soooo “in love” with his bride. I just love that! What a fun and beautiful wedding. Their Wedding Ceremony was at St. Monica’s in Santa Monica, a short ride from the Bel Air Bay Club. Christie wanted her flowers to be tropical and beautiful since she is a very natural beauty herself. Take a look at their amazing photographer, and my new friend Raya. Lia & Tony were married in San Clemente at the beautiful historic ocean view Casa Romantica. She wanted the colors of her flowers to match the Casa. They actually brought me pictures of the tile work for inspiration for their palette. Every meeting I had with them was a family affair. Lia’s Dad, Mom and Sister (and the groom Tony) were there every step of the way. I felt so much love and closeness in their family…..and then, not to down play any other bride or wedding….but Lia absolutely took my breath away when I saw her walk into the casa on her wedding day. She was so beautiful. And of course her mom and sister were right by her side giving her their full love and support. I have chills just writing this and remembering. I have never had a bride effect me like that, and I see a lot of brides, right??
The fact that their wedding was published in the amazing “Style me pretty“ blog was also such a huge deal for me. Made me proud! I have drawn so much inspiration from that blog, and to read such great comments about me and my work was an experience that I will cherish for a long time.

Courtney had an “eye for design” so meeting with her was always an inspiration to me. Her style was yellow and white…fresh, but unique. Dawn and Wayde’ Tivoli Terrace wedding was beautiful. Dawn has great style and chose hues of purple for her floral designs. The handsome 5 year old in the photos below is my darling Son Luca. He was in his element dressed up and dancing, he loved it! Only he couldn’t understand why we weren’t able to rent him a white tux like Indiana Jones…imagine, a 5 year old wanting to “keep his tuxedo”….to wear “often”? Classic. That’s my boy!
